The Medway Conservation Commission would like to give a huge thank you to Carter Pomponio for his Eagle Community Service Project. His project involved the construction and placement of 10 bat nursery structures across several sites within the Medway Conservation wetlands to promote safe habitats for bats and to help mosquito-borne illness risks such as EEE and West Nile disease in our community. With the assistance of 23 volunteers, Carter organized and directed the creation of the bat nurseries and their mounting on posts 16 feet above ground to discourage predators and vandalism. Working in conjunction with the Medway Conservation Commission, the Capital Improvement Planning Committee, and the Select Board, he secured the appropriate permits for building in conservation/wetland areas and community preservation funding. He secured additional funds and material for the project through generous donations from the community, church, and friends. More than 320 volunteer service hours were provided to complete the project. Carter is a rising Senior, Peer Counselor, Captain of the swimming and diving team, and High Honor Student at Medway High school.
