Mission Statement

The Animal Control Department enforces all Town bylaws, State Laws, and Town animal rules and regulations.  This includes but is not limited to licensing notification, bite/ wound quarantines, leash law violations, barking problems, preparing suspected rabid animals for testing, dealing with sick or injured wildlife, and issues at the dog park.

Yes, if your dog accidentally gets loose it is the fastest way for your pet to be returned to you. State law requires all dogs over the age of 6 months to be licensed.

State law requires that all dogs, cat and ferrets are regularly vaccinated against rabies. Most often cats get rabies after being bitten by a wild animal. These animals can enter your home (bat) or other animal. Pet owners often don't plan on it but indoor cats do get out accidentally. If your cat had a possible exposure to rabies and is unvaccinated, it is recommended to euthanize the animal or vaccinate it immediately and place it on a strict confinement for 4 months.  Accidents are never planned but they do happen. Let's be prepared in case they do!

Licenses are renewed YEARLY beginning January 1st and are due by April 1st, late fees are imposed after April 1st. The late fee is .00

State law requires any dog  that is picked up  be held for 7 days. However, there is no "stray holding period" law for other animals, including cats.  Unclaimed animals are placed into rescues, shelters, or adopted out directly through Animal Control.
