Mission Statement

The primary objective of the Building Department is to protect the public's safety and welfare as it relates to construction; ensuring that any construction, reconstruction, alterations, repairs, moving or demolition of buildings and / or structures conform to all requirements of the Building, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Gas State Codes as well as Town of Medway Zoning bylaws.

The Building Department provides a central location for permit applications (building, electrical, plumbing and gas) to be obtained, filed, and processed as well as assisting with our online permitting system and scheduling all required inspections. The Building Department is available to address questions, concerns, and is a source of general building and zoning information.

It is important that anyone who intends to do any construction or remodeling that they contact the Building Department to ensure that they are in compliance with the various regulations, bylaws and building codes.

 

Meeting Information

The Building Commissioner is generally in the office from 7:30-9:00 for meetings and consultations, or call to arrange a meeting.

FAQS

Building, Gas, Plumbing, Wiring (Electrical) and Sheet Metal (Mechanical) permit applications are applied for online. Click here for the link to online permit applications.

You may obtain the Zone District you are in or your Zoning set-backs by reading the Medway Zoning Map or speaking to the Building Commissioner who is the Zoning Enforcement Agent. The setbacks for each zone are noted on the zoning map.

The application is available here or may be obtained from the Medway Town Clerk Office.

The money from the permit fee is used to pay for the building department’s overhead and inspectors services. Any funds remaining at the end of the year are returned to the town’s general fund.
