On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, members of the Historical Commission presented a newly printed, digitized edition of Jameson’s History of Medway to the Medway Public Library.

Medway’s history has taken on new life with the printing of a digital version of the once definitive history written by Rev. E. O. Jameson, The History of Medway, Mass., 1713-1885, copyright 1886.   This book was commissioned in 1881 by the Town of Medway prior to East Medway being incorporated as the Town of Millis in 1885, and very few copies of this original comprehensive Medway history are still in existence.  Civil War historian and author Tom Ellis took on the project of digitizing and reprinting the book. The Medway Historical Commission supported the work by having the book cover designed, and by scanning and saving the book as a searchable file that is now available on the Town of Medway/Historical Commission website, medwayma.gov.  The Historical Commission presented the first printed copy to the Medway Library at the Library Trustees’ meeting on August 4, 2026.

Also presented to the Library trustees was a reprint of the Handbook of Medway History, 1713-1913 by Orion T. Mason, funded by the Kennedy family in memory of their grandmother, Mary Kennedy.  Mary’s grandson Michael Kennedy initiated this project with the Medway Historical Society, and he presented the book to the library.  This book is also digitized and available at the Town of Medway/Historical Commission website medwayma.gov.

These books are filled with early Medway history and will be placed in circulation. They are also available for sale through the Medway Historical Society at info@medwayhistoricalsociety.org .
