Important Community Update: Spotted Lanternfly Sighted in Medway

The Mass. Dept. of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) has confirmed the presence of the invasive Spotted Lanternfly (nymph stage) here in Medway.

What you need to know:

  • Are they dangerous to people or pets? No! They do not bite or sting.

  • Why are they a problem? They gather in large numbers, damage trees/plants (like maples, grapevines, and hops), and leave behind a sticky residue.

  • What's next? You may see state (MDAR) or federal (USDA) surveyors out in town checking trees to map the area.

How you can help: If you spot one, don't let it ride! Take a photo and report it directly to MDAR’s reporting tool

Let’s work together to protect our local trees and gardens! 🌳
