Please stop leaving pet waste bags in the cemetery. It’s gross, disrespectful, and a health hazard.

And if you’re using those green “compostable” bags and thinking it’s okay to toss them into the woods—think again. 🌱

🚫 Never throw pet waste bags into the woods, even if the bag says “compostable.”

Pet waste can contain harmful pathogens and parasites that can contaminate soil and water and pose risks to wildlife, people, and other pets.

And “compostable” doesn’t mean “okay to leave outside.” Many compostable bags require specific industrial composting conditions to break down, and many composting facilities don’t accept pet waste because of pathogen and contamination concerns. Some products marketed as compostable also rely on fossil-fuel-derived materials.

The takeaway: A green label doesn’t automatically make a product sustainable—especially when there’s no system in place to properly process it. 🌎🐾

Please bag your pet’s waste and take it with you or dispose of it in an appropriate trash receptacle. The cemetery is not a dumping ground.
