For Medway Residents

  1. Log in or create an account on the MIRCS Firearms Licensing Portal.
  2. Complete and submit the online application through the portal.
  3. After completing the online portion, you still need to come to the station. Licensing officers will contact you.
  4. Bring the required documentation and fees as outlined in the chart below. The in-person appointment will take approximately 15-30 minutes.

Required documentation and fees

New License to Carry

For portal applications an in-person meeting is still required, fingerprinting is required, a licensing officer will call you to set an appointment when your application is received. Paper applications are accepted and also require an in-person meeting and fingerprinting. If using a paper application, please have all paperwork prepared, call the station to set an appointment and bring all paperwork to your appointment.  

1. Firearms Safety Course Certification -A copy of your completed safety course from a certified safety instructor.

2. Processing Fee -A check or money order made out to the Town of Medway for $100.00.

 

New Firearms Identification Card (FID)

For portal applications an in-person meeting is still required, fingerprinting is required, a licensing officer will call you to set an appointment when your application is received. Paper applications are accepted and also require an in-person meeting and fingerprinting. If using a paper application, please have all paperwork prepared, call the station to set an appointment and bring all paperwork to your appointment.  

1. Firearms Safety Course Certification - A copy of your completed safety course from a certified safety instructor. Ages 15-18 also require a note authorizing the permit from a parent/legal guardian.

2. Processing Fee

Under Age 18: A check or money order made out to the Town of Medway for $25.00.

Restricted FID: A check or money order made out to the Town of Medway for $25.00.

Standard FID: A check or money order made out to the Town of Medway for $100.00.

 

Renewal of a License to Carry

For portal renewals an in-person meeting is still required, a licensing officer will call you to set an appointment when your application is received. Paper applications are accepted and also require an in-person meeting.  If using a paper application, please have all paperwork prepared, call the station to set an appointment and bring all paperwork to your appointment.  

1. Processing Fee - A check or money order made out to the Town of Medway for $100.00. Applicants over 70 years of age at the time of renewal will not be charged a processing fee.

 

Renewal of FID Card

For portal renewals an in-person meeting is still required, a licensing officer will call you to set an appointment when your application is received. Paper applications are accepted and also require an in-person meeting.  If using a paper application, please have all paperwork prepared, call the station to set an appointment and bring all paperwork to your appointment.  

1. Processing Fee - A check or money order made out to the Town of Medway for $100.00. Applicants over 70 years of age at the time of renewal will not be charged a processing fee.

 

Licensing Notes

All first-time License to Carry Firearms applicants must provide certification that the applicant successfully completed a Basic Firearms Safety Course by a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Basic Firearms Course Instructor, Hunter Education, or Firearms Safety Course given by the Massachusetts Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. The Medway Police Department only accepts approved Safety Course certificates.

All active military or Massachusetts National Guard members are exempt from this requirement with the submission of a DD Form 2586.

Persons 18 years of age or older no longer require an Firearms Identification Card (FID) card to possess self-defense spray. Minors between 15 years of age and under 18 may possess self-defense sprays (if granted an FID card and permission from parent).

Firearm licenses are valid for 6 years. You must submit a request with your local police department for a renewal prior to the expiration date of your current license. If your application for renewal is made prior to the expiration date, your current license remains valid until the renewal is either approved or denied. Additional training is not required.
