Medway High School earned a GOLD medal and was recently ranked #10 in US News and World Reports' Best High Schools in Massachusetts ratings and #293 nationally for student performance. In addition, Medway High School is ranked #219 in STEM High Schools nationally. To determine the top science, technology, engineering and math schools, U.S. News looked at the top 500 public schools from the Best High School rankings and evaluated their students’ participation and success in Advance Placement science and math tests.
According to the US News and World Reports' site: The Best High Schools rankings identify the country's top-performing public high schools. The goal is to provide a clear, unbiased picture of how well public schools serve all of their students – from the highest to lowest achieving – in preparing them to demonstrate proficiency in basic skills as well as readiness for college-level work.
All public high schools were eligible and nearly all were evaluated in the process of calculating the rankings. There are a number of data sources used to produce the Best High Schools rankings:
- The Common Core of Data is the U.S. Department of Education website, updated annually, that contains basic data on enrollment, student ethnicity and other profile information on all public high schools in the U.S. The U.S. Department of Education collects the data found on this site directly from the schools themselves, school districts or state departments of education. The data used in the 2017 rankings are for the 2014-2015 school year.
- College Board was the source of the Advanced Placement test data for each public high school, when applicable, that were used to create calculated values used in the rankings. The AP test data used in the analysis are for 12th-grade students in the 2014-2015 school year.
- Each high school's statewide accountability proficiency test results and graduation rate were collected directly from official sources in that state. The statewide assessment data are from the 2014-2015 school year and the graduation rates correspond to the 2015 graduation cohort, which is made up of students who entered ninth grade in 2011-2012.
“We are very pleased to see the good work of Medway students and teachers recognized nationally,” said Superintendent Armand Pires. He continued, "We are confident that the implementation of our current strategic plan will help ensure continued success and improvement."
