You may request any building, electrical, plumbing or gas inspection by phoning the building department office at (508) 533-3253.  For a gas, plumbing or electrical inspection you will either be connected directly to the inspector's voicemail by the office staff, or you may select the appropriate inspector's voicemail from the selections indicated in the phone message.  When leaving a message for the inspector please leave your name, location of work, type of inspections (i.e. electrical – rough inspection) and a phone number where you may be reached.  For building or mechanical inspections you may phone the building department and speak directly with the Building Commissioner or his staff who will leave him a message, or you may leave a message on his voicemail.

Note: If you have hired a contractor it is essential that they call in the inspection, unless you are the general contractor.

There is a re-inspection fee for any failed inspection, either because the work was incorrect or not ready for inspection, or the inspector was unable to view the work. The re-inspection fee must be paid before the inspector will return.

It is unlawful to construct, reconstruct, alter, repair, remove or demolish a building or structure or to change the use or occupancy of a building or structure or to install or alter any equipment for which revision is made or the installation of which is regulated by 780 CMR without first filing a written application with the building official and obtaining the required permit. All households in the municipal trash and recycling program will be billed an annual fee of $250.00 to provide basic solid waste and recycling services. Stickers can only be issued at the Recycling Center during normal bussines hours. (DPW office no longer provides stickers)  A second sticker can be purchased at the Recycling Center for $15.00.  Commercial use of the facility is not permitted.
